about
The Band of Bards aims to cater to high school English and Theatre students along the east coast. With an array of workshop selections and a professional team of teachers and actors, we have different options based on your classroom needs. Our text-based In Conversation workshop options provide a new space for learning that goes beyond a classic study guide. Our lessons, which correlate with state-mandated testing for grades 9-12, create immersive experiences that will help students not only retain information on classical literature for tests, but will cultivate the skills needed to foster strong analytical reading comprehension. For theatre classes, we have On Your Feet options that encourage young actors to examine text to make informed character choices and bold physical choices that match the fullness of Shakespeare's words.
When an actor can perform Shakespeare, other plays come easier. When a student can read and analyze Shakespeare, other literature seems clearer. We believe that once a student can look beyond the stigma of Shakespeare, there are endless possibilities to what new material they can begin to explore with confidence, clarity, and imagination.
